About IHCUS
The Ibizan Hound Club of the United States is the official AKC parent club for the Ibizan Hound, established in 1975. IHCUS supports the breed through health initiatives, rescue, education, and the National Specialty.
What the club does
Preserving the breed standard
As Ibizan Hounds were introduced to America in the mid-1900s, there was a need to define what a “true” Ibizan Hound should look and act like. The club works with the American Kennel Club to maintain official breed standards so the dogs don’t drift too far from their historical type.
Coordinating responsible breeding
The club promotes ethical breeding practices to maintain the health, temperament, and hunting abilities of the Ibizan Hound, rather than just appearance.
Organizing events and competition
They support dog shows, lure coursing, and field events — activities that reflect the breed’s original purpose as a fast, sight-driven hunter.
Education and community
The club provides resources for owners and breeders, helping people understand the breed’s unique traits (like high energy and independence).
Advocacy and recognition
Breed clubs like this also played a role in gaining and maintaining official recognition within organizations like the AKC.
